In Northwest Philly, we're lucky to have access to extensive parks and green spaces.  But as our green spaces continue to be lost to development,  it's on the private property owner  to rethink those outdoor spaces over which we still have control- our own yards. Native plants are the building blocks of a healthy ecosystem and we can extend our green spaces depending on what we plant in our own gardens. Native plants attract pollinators and act as host plants for caterpillars and other beneficial insects.  

Join Weavers Way Member & PA Master Naturalist John Janick to discuss the benefits of promoting native plants in your garden. John will help you begin to identify invasive non-native plants commonly found in our area, and help you understand the threat they pose to delicate natural habitats such as Carpenter's Woods. John will explain what options exist  for different light/soil conditions and demonstrate how to plant a garden bed most successfully, including how to prep the bed for planting, proper techniques for planting plugs and keys to success throughout the year.
